My name is Uran Christensen, and I’m serving as the Site Council President for Homer Middle this year. My oldest son, Bryce, is in 8th grade, and my own personal goal that I bring to this role is the hope that it allows me to contribute to the school that already offers so much to my student.
As we move into the school year, the other members of the Site Council and myself are cooking up some really cool ideas, and we want to hear from you! The overall goal we have chosen as a Council is to put together some classes/coaching on basic “common sense” things for adults that our kids maybe haven’t learned yet.
No one knows these awesome kids better than you do, so tell us what you think they could benefit from learning. What sort of things are second nature to you but maybe not something your child has ever done themselves? Personal finance? Changing a tire? Meal planning/shopping on a budget? Let us know by replying to Kari Dendurent at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Middle school is such a transitional time, and so many of our kids are eager to start taking on more responsibility, which makes this project especially exciting for us.
Finally, I wanted to draw attention to a couple of survey options on the KPBSD website https://www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us/schools.aspx?id=340. These surveys can be completed for either the school as a whole or the individual principal/teacher, and can include your name or be submitted anonymously.
I look forward to hearing your ideas!
